Zacapa XO is masterfully crafted in Guatemala using the first press of sugar cane and aged 2300m 'Above the Clouds' to slow the aging process, developing layers of aromas and flavors within the rum.
Rums are hand-selected aged between 10 and 25 years in the dynamic “Sistema Solera.” Older and younger rums are then blended as they age in a sequence of barrels that previously stored robust American whiskeys, delicate Sherries, fine Pedro Ximénez wines and finished in French oak casks which previously aged Cognac.

Get to know Zacapa
Zacapa rum was created in 1976 to commemorate the 100th anniversary celebration of the foundation of the city of Zacapa.
Zacapa is a town in Guatemala located approximately 112km from Guatemala City. The name Zacapa derives from Nahuatl (Aztec) language, and it means “on the river of grass."
Meet Zacapa's Master Blender
The orchestrator behind Zacapa’s delicious taste is Lorena Vásquez, one of the few female master blenders in the world of spirits. Zacapa Master Blender of more than 35 years Lorena Vásquez, is one of only a few female leaders in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
She is largely credited with making Zacapa the premium spirit is it today.
Process
Virgin sugar cane
Unlike most rums that are made from molasses, our rums are made using the first press of sugar cane.
Fermentation
Our fermentation process uses a strain of yeast derived from pineapples which brings out incredible aromas and flavors.
Distillation
During the distillation process, the flavor and aroma character and profile of each rum is defined.
Petate weaving
Empowering women and giving Zacapa bottles Guatemalan authenticity.
In 1976 the first Zacapa bottle was completely covered by Petate weaving made by women from El Progreso. By 1999 Zacapa took the initiative to support women from El Quiché who where displaced by conflict, creating work opportunities for their Petate weaving skills.
Later on, other villages from Jocotán were heavily affected by a dry season that destroyed their crops which were their main source of income. Zacapa was able to incorporate them and give the opportunity to generate a new income. Throughout these turbulent times, women have emerged as inspirational leaders in their communities.
